Of particular importance is the ability to automatically import data from source systems. Replication flows enable regular data updates, including delta loading. This eliminates the need to reload entire data sets with every update.

A key concept of SAP Datasphere is its multi-tier data architecture, which includes Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers. This structure supports a clear separation between raw data, processed data, and information that can be used for business purposes. This allows data to be refined in stages, ensures its quality, and creates a consistent foundation for analysis.

1. Bronze Level: Centralized Provision of Raw Data
At the Bronze Level, data is first imported from the source systems and stored. The data remains largely unchanged and serves as the basis for further processing steps.  

2. Silver Layer: Clean and Harmonize Data
The Silver Layer serves as the central layer for data refinement. Here, data from various systems is cleaned, harmonized, and prepared for further use. This includes, for example:

  • Type Conversions
  • Standardized Naming Conventions
  • Consolidation of Different Data Sources
  • Quality and Validity Checks

At this level, consistent data sets are created for analyses and departmental use.  

3. Gold Level: Making Data Usable for Business
The Gold Level provides data models that have been prepared for business use. Here, analytical models are built with additional semantics, key metrics, and security mechanisms. This data can then be used for reporting, analysis, or other applications.  

In this way, SAP Datasphere lays the foundation for high-quality, reliable data. However, the long-term success of a data platform also depends on how this data is organized, managed, and made available to users.

Data Products and Governance as a Key to Success

Technical integration alone does not fully realize the benefits of a data platform. It is crucial to make data available in a way that allows business units to use it directly. This is where data products come into play. These are processed and technically documented data sets or data models provided for a specific use case. They feature clear lines of responsibility, defined quality standards, and transparent access rules. SAP Datasphere helps companies manage these data products and transparently trace their origins and dependencies. This makes it possible to see at any time where data comes from, how it is processed, and in which business applications it is used.

At the same time, governance plays an important role. It ensures that data retains its business context, that responsibilities are clearly defined, and that information can be used in a controlled manner. Tools such as the Repository Explorer help create transparency regarding data objects and their relationships.
