xP&A (Extended Planning & Analytics) | celver AG

In a nutshell

xP&A (Extended Planning & Analytics) describes a planning approach in which financial planning, operational planning, and analytics are integrated across departmental boundaries. The goal is to bring together sales, supply chain, production, finance, human resources, and other business units on a common data foundation and to plan them in a unified manner.

Unlike isolated planning processes, xP&A enables end-to-end corporate management in which the relationships between operational and financial impacts are immediately apparent.

Why is xP&A important?

Many companies today have well-developed sub-plans, for example, for sales, the supply chain, or finance. In practice, however, these plans are often separate from one another. This results in discrepancies in figures, a high volume of manual reconciliation work, and long planning cycles.

Especially in times of market volatility, isolated financial planning is no longer sufficient. Companies must understand how changes in sales, demand, supply chains, or personnel directly impact revenue, costs, liquidity, and earnings. This requires integrated planning that combines operational and financial perspectives.

xP&A pursues precisely this goal. Instead of isolated Excel models and siloed solutions, it creates a unified management model that links planning efforts across organizational boundaries. Sales, supply chain, production, and finance all work from a consistent data foundation and can assess the impact of decisions more quickly.

Modern planning platforms such as Board, Anaplan, or SAP Analytics Cloud provide the technical foundation for this. However, the real added value does not come from the technology itself, but rather from the integration of processes, data, and responsibilities.

How does celver AG provide support?

For more than 25 years, celver AG has been helping companies digitize and integrate their analysis and planning processes. Our focus is on combining financial planning (FP&A) and operational planning (S&OP) into a seamless, end-to-end corporate planning process.

We support our clients from the development of the planning strategy through the definition of the necessary processes to the technical implementation of the solution. In doing so, we consider both organizational and technological issues and assist in selecting the appropriate platform.

Typical questions from our customers include:

  • How can S&OP and financial planning be better integrated?
  • What would be a suitable planning solution or platform?
  • How can scenarios and forecasts be created more quickly?
  • How is a unified management model for sales, the supply chain, and finance developed?
  • What data is needed for integrated planning?

Our goal is always to develop a planning solution that not only works from a technical standpoint but also integrates business planning processes across departments, thereby supporting concrete decision-making within the company.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between FP&A and xP&A?

FP&A focuses primarily on financial planning. xP&A expands this approach to include other areas of the business, such as sales, supply chain, production, and human resources, and integrates them with financial planning.

Why is xP&A becoming more important right now?

Today, companies must respond to market changes more quickly than they did just a few years ago. Isolated planning often leads to inconsistencies and slow decision-making processes. Integrated planning provides transparency regarding interdependencies and improves the ability to manage the business.

What is the relationship between S&OP and xP&A?

In many companies, S&OP forms the operational core of planning. xP&A expands on this approach and integrates it with financial, human resources, and other corporate planning functions to create a unified management model.
